It's usual for people to get sad, depress. It's very normal. After all there's have both darkness and light. So there's no life which have only happiness. It's like you tasted the bitter foods that's why you can enjoy the sweet foods. Here are 10 easy steps to motivate yourself.
1. First of all, don't think that you are alone in the depressed/sad path. It's from the wealthiest person in this world to the poorest person - all of them have sinked in sad/depressed water. So if you think yourself not alone in this then you can win 50% of the battle. 
2. Secondly, sadness comes from always denying the truth. You have to understand that nothing is fair and nothing can be taken for granted forever. This world is full of good things as well as full of bad things. So you can't expect to get treated fairly every time. If you face sad things then try not to deny it. Just remember it few times with details and then try to plan for tomorrow. Slowly your sadness will fade away. 
3. Third, If you failed at something then don't doubt over your abilities. Even the mightiest person, even the successful person faced failure many times. And remember the old proverb "Failure is the pillar of success". So, try to think about your abilities, make them even sharper for the second round. Try, try and try once more.
